The “Sunday Scaries” and How to Flip the Script on Your Career

I remember the first time I heard the statistic that heart attacks increase significantly on Monday mornings. If you haven’t heard of the term “Sunday Scaries,” it’s the anxiety many feel about returning to work on Monday. It’s even more alarming when you consider the health concerns associated with this anxiety. Studies suggest the risk of a heart attack increases by as much as 20% on Mondays (11Alive.com). Unfortunately, many resort to “Sunday Fundays,” where heavy drinking is involved to mask this fear. This behavior can exacerbate stress levels and negatively impact brain function and cardiovascular health. For instance, heavy drinking on weekends can elevate blood pressure, increase fat levels in the bloodstream, and lead to heart failure (11Alive.com) (British Heart Foundation).

This morning, as I was doing yoga, Apple notified me of a substantially lowered resting heart rate. Over the last 45 days, I’ve observed a significant improvement in my resting heart rate, now averaging 61 BPM. This positive trend is a testament to the benefits of maintaining a consistent wellness routine and pursuing a fulfilling career.

When I go to sleep on a Sunday night, the only thing I think about is who I get to impact, inspire, and connect with on Monday. I leap out of bed to start my morning because I love what I do so much. This weekend, I connected with my local professional friends who are highly successful in their sales roles, and they simply love what they are doing. They work remote jobs making incredible wages and are excellent at their craft. They hold themselves accountable for their work and have the autonomy to deliver results. I interviewed five individuals about what their Sundays feel like, and they were confused by the question. They mentioned it’s just another day for them; each day, they hit the restart and have the ability to DELIVER big. They love what they are doing.

I am inspired to continue focusing on disrupting recruitment by bringing in profiles of talented individuals who want us to find them the types of jobs that offer high compensation and make them leap out of bed, rather than just filling roles. We are flipping the script. I am a human on a mission to help maximize lives.
